Update on telehealth parity from Health Affairs

For these interested in telehealth issues, the Health Affairs blog posted a Health Policy Brief on telehealth parity laws on 8-15-16. This posting provides an update about federal, Medicare, Medicaid and commercial telehealth coverage issues.  It also asks an interesting question: since telehealth results in cost savings, should this result in lower reimbursement to reflect lower costs?  From the article:

If telehealth services save money and are more efficient, the opponents argue, reimbursement for services should mirror those savings. Because of the high risks, possible lower quality of care, and cost savings of telehealth, many physicians believe that telemedicine should not be reimbursed on the same levels as in-person care.
