MN psychologist Karen Lloyd, Ph.D. and team featured in national article about HP’s resiliance-training program

Minnesota psychologist Karen Lloyd, PhD, was featured in an article published by the Wall Street Journal. Dr. Lloyd is Senior Director of Behavioral Health and Resilience for HealthPartners. The article, “Why Resilience Is Good for Your Health and Career,” was published on February 15, 2016, and is subtitled, “employers that offer coaching and how to be positive in spite of stressing benefits go beyond work.”

The article reviews interesting resilience-training programs utilized by corporations, including HealthPartners. The HP program includes an online measure of health assessment resulting in an average score for certain lifestyle factors. Participants received resilience coaching in three one hour sessions, and were found to have a significant improvement in their overall health score which was maintained at a one-year follow-up assessment. HP is now providing resilience coaching sessions for care teams at HP clinics. The article includes five resilience-promoting tips.

My take: this study builds on an emerging body of research about the benefits of resiliance training.  The tips in the article would be helpful for mental health professionals to use in their own life, both at work and home, and could be passed on to people who are consulting us.
