Article about benefits of brief exercise – may help mental health patients increase their activity level

The Wall Street Journal published “Why a Few Minutes of Exercise Can Show Results” on 4-18-16.

This is a detailed article which reviews the increasing research in support of the benefits of “hi-intensity interval training” (HIIT) and the rapidly expanding -exploding, really- number of apps to help people with brief workouts of varying intensity, including yoga poses. The article emphasizes that many forms of HIIT are too intense for most of us, but finding a bried and relatively intense workout, or activity, can have significant benefits.

mhconcierge’s take: Mental health professionals helping patients work on their physical wellness as part of a mental health wellness program often hear, “I don’t have time to work out!”  These HIIT resources can be offered to help people do the best with what time they have.
